The hospital's challenge
A strategic directive of the Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service is to be a global leader in medical research. In working toward this goal, the health service identified the need to obtain more accurate perioperative records. This included common electronic patient files, point of care technology and the use of electronic files for recording and information-sharing between the Health Service's various hospital facilities.
Through an existing partnership with the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the successful implementation of Getz Clinical modules there, the Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service decided to implement the same modules in all operating theatres and recovery rooms at Mount Gambier Hospital.
Getz Clinical solution
Installation included the five Getz Clinical modules, associated hardware (touch screen monitors and server infrastructure), professional implementation services, training services, technical support services and configuration.
Getz Clinical worked closely with the Mount Gambier Hospital’s IT Department to build an enterprise-wide IT infrastructure. This enabled Getz Clinical modules to communicate with various hospital programs and shared information systems.
After installation, Mount Gambier Hospital was able to analyse their practice and identify areas where new initiatives might improve care. With the assistance of scientific staff at the University of Adelaide, various studies were undertaken to improve hospital processes.
The Getz Clinical modules assisted Mount Gambier and District Health Services to achieve a key strategic target for 2012: ensuring that elective surgeries were performed within a 12 month waiting period. 99% of patients were admitted to surgery within the clinically recommended time frames.
